Rotary: Brand History
Founded in 1895 in the Swiss town of La Chaux-de-Fonds by Moise Dreyfuss, Rotary began as a family-run workshop dedicated to crafting elegant, reliable timepieces at accessible luxury standards. Its early collections quickly gained a reputation for refined design, quality Swiss engineering and dependable everyday performance.
Rotary expanded significantly during the early 20th century, particularly in the United Kingdom, which became its largest and most influential market. In 1925, the brand adopted its now-iconic winged wheel logo, symbolising precision, progress and modern craftsmanship. By 1940, Rotary had become the official watch supplier to the British Army, a partnership that reinforced the company’s reputation for durability and trustworthy engineering under demanding conditions.
Post-war, Rotary strengthened its position as a leading name in British horology, known for blending classical aesthetics with practical innovation. The brand’s focus on slim profiles, elegant dress watches and versatile everyday models helped cultivate a loyal following.
In the modern era, Rotary continues to honour its Swiss heritage while embracing contemporary design and improved technical standards. The brand remains admired for delivering strong value within the luxury-adjacent segment, offering mechanical, automatic and quartz timepieces that balance tradition, refinement and reliability. Today, Rotary stands as one of the most recognisable watch brands in the UK, celebrated for over a century of craftsmanship and timeless design.
