The Watch
This 1963 Rolex Day-Date Ref.1803/9 in 18k white gold is a timeless vintage Rolex. It features a 36mm Oyster case crafted from white gold, paired with the classic and distinctive fluted bezel. The silver pie-pan dial with dauphine hands adds to a less frequently seen and more subtle combination than the usual champagne dials found on yellow gold Day-Dates of this era, and offers a distinctly mid-century aesthetic. A day display at 12 o'clock and a date window at 3 o'clock, magnified by a Cyclops lens, is both useful and iconic. Powered by the Rolex Calibre 1555 automatic movement, it delivers robust and reliable performance.
Dimensions: 36mm wide, 12mm thick, 44mm lug-to-lug.
The Watchmaker
Founded in 1905, Rolex remains a cornerstone of Swiss horology, synonymous with precision, innovation, and timeless style. The Day-Date line, introduced in 1956, was revolutionary as the first wristwatch to display both the date and the day of the week in full text. Known as the "President," the Day-Date has been worn by global leaders, celebrities, and tastemakers. The Ref. 1803, produced from 1959 through the late 1970s, is especially revered among collectors for its balance of elegance and heritage.
Authenticity, Condition, and Guarantees
All items have been inspected for authenticity, and are guaranteed as such. As this is a pre-owned watch, signs of wear consistent with age and previous use should be expected. Buyers of watches should also recognise that maintenance and treatment appropriate to the watch in question are required to protect time-keeping and condition. There is a 6 month function guarantee for watches costing £1000 or more. Water resistance is not guaranteed; even watches originally waterproof may not be so, unless recently sealed and pressure-tested.
