Tank Française watch, medium model, quartz movement stainless steel case. Faceted crown in steel decorated with a synthetic cabochon-shaped spinel. Antique dial, blued-steel sword-shaped hands, sapphire crystal. Steel bracelet. Case dimensions: 28mm case     Water-resistant to 3 bar (approx. Meters

The watch was designed by Louis Cartier, the grandson of the company's founder. The watch itself was heavily inspired by the Renault tanks used by the French military during World War I. The original Cartier Tank Française featured a rectangular case with clean lines and a simple, uncluttered dial

Cartier was founded in 1847 in Paris by the jeweller Louis-François Cartier, who in 1899 handed over to his three sons. They would establish the company internationally, not least by making the Cartier name a favourite among the crowned heads of Europe. The first wristwatch created by Cartier, in 1904, was a special order from Louis Cartier's friend, the flamboyant Brazilian aviation pioneer Alberto Santos Dumont. The Cartier Santos greatly contributed to the popularity of the wristwatch among the Parisian high society.
